Oakwood Public Safety Department announces death of officer

Oakwood, Ohio – The Oakwood Public Safety Department and the Oakwood Fraternal Order of Police announced the passing of Public Safety Officer Jesse Schaffer. Although details of Schaffer’s death have not been released, the Oakwood Public Safety Department characterized it as a “sudden death”, and the Oakwood Fraternal Order of Police indicated that it was an “off duty” death.

Shaffer worked for the Oakwood Public Safety Department from May 14, 2018, until his death on September 28, 2021. Prior to joining Oakwood, Schaffer was a United States Marine and a Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Oakwood Public Safety Department said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with PSO Schaffer’s family during this very difficult time.” Via Facebook posts, many in the community also shared their shock at the loss of Officer Schaffer and their prayers and condolences for Schaffer’s family. Some posts on Facebook highlighted Schaffer as someone who was funny, always having a smile, and always being willing to do anything for anyone. All said Schaffer will be missed.
