Kettering Fairmont boys’ varsity basketball team outlasts Beavercreek for 11th win of season

Kettering, Ohio – The Kettering Fairmont Firebirds boys basketball team took on the Beavercreek Beavers Friday, January 2, 2022, at Kettering’s Trent Arena.



The Firebirds opened the game strong taking a 6 point 1st
quarter lead by outscoring the Beavers 12-6. In the 2nd quarter, the Beavers fought to keep the game close, but Kettering managed to add 1 point to their lead by outscoring Beavercreek 8-7. With the score 20-13 Kettering went into halftime with a 7 point lead. In the 3rd quarter, the Beavers clawed their way all the way back to within 1 point by outscoring the Firebirds 19-13. Kettering took their slim 1 point, 33-32, lead into the 4th
quarter. The Firebirds responded to the pressure and had their best quarter of the game by putting 19 points on the board. The beavers could only muster 10 points. The 9 point 4th quarter margin gave Kettering a 10 point victory by the score of 52-42.

Kettering’s 52 points were their lowest point total of the season for a winning game. The Firebirds only had 2 players reach double digits in points on the night. Senior Guard #12 Anthony Johnson was the game's leading scorer. Johnson scored 16 points on the night shooting 6 of 14 from the floor and making 2 of 5 3-point attempts. Johnson was also 2 of 3 from the free throw line. He also had 3 defensive rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Johnson also committed a turnover and 2 personal fouls.

Kettering Senior Guard #2 Dasan Doucet scored 11 points on the night. Doucet was 4 of 9 from the field and 1 of 3 from 3-point range. He was also 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Doucet also contributed 7 rebounds, 5 defensive and 2 offensive, 4 assists, and 3 steals. He did not have any turnovers or personal fouls.

The Firebirds’ remaining points came from Junior Forward #10 Eli Sherwood – 9 points, Junior Guard #22 Aden Marrero – 6 points, Junior Guard #11 Tyler Gentile - 5 points, Junior Guard #1 Cadyn Hower – 3 points, and Junior Guard #3 Logan Adams – 2 points

The Firebirds shot 40.8% (20 of 49) from the floor and 30.4% (7 of 23) from 3-point range. They were also 55.6% (5 of 9) from the free throw line. The Firebirds had 21 rebounds, 16 defensive and 5 offensive. They also had 18 assists, 11 steals, and a single block. The team also committed 16 personal fouls and 6 turnovers.

Beavercreek Senior Guard #22 Adam Duvall was the Beaver’s leading scorer with 15 points. He was 3 of 8 from the field and 2 of 5 from 3-point range. Duvall was perfect from the free throw line hitting 7 on the night. Duvall also had 13 rebounds, 11 defensive and 2 offensive, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Duvall also turned the ball over 5 times.

The Beavers shot 41.7% (15 of 36) from the field and were 18.2% (2 of 11) from 3-point range. The Beavers were also 83.3% (10 of 12) from the free throw line. Beavercreek nabbed 31 rebounds, 23 defensive and 8 offensive. The Beavers also had 11 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. The team also turned the ball over 16 times.

With the victory, Kettering moved to 11-1 on the season and remain in second place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference behind undefeated Centerville. The Firebirds will take a 5 game winning streak into their next matchup Friday, January 14, 2022, at 7:30 P.M. against the Northmont Thunderbolts. The game will be played at Northmont. Northmont is 6-5 on the season and is 2-5 in league play.
