Kettering Fairmont Firebirds boys’ basketball team travels to Clayton to take on the Northmont Thunderbolts

Kettering, Ohio – Friday, January 14, 2022, the Kettering Fairmont Firebirds boys’ basketball team traveled to Clayton to take on the Northmont Thunderbolts in a Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) matchup.



Kettering opened the game taking a 4 point 1st
quarter lead by outscoring the Thunderbolts 11-7. In the 2nd quarter, the Firebirds added another 5 points to their lead by outscoring Northmont 19-14. Kettering took a 30-21 9 point lead into the locker room at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Firebirds added another 6 points to their lead by outscoring the Thunderbolts 14-8. Kettering’s 44-29, 15 point, lead in the 4th
quarter seemed to set the Firebirds up for another fairly easy win. But the Thunderbolts lived up to their nickname in the 4th quarter and came roaring back to outscore Kettering by a score of 26-13. Despite the Thunderbolts outscoring Kettering by 13 points in the 4th quarter, the Firebirds were able to hang on to a nail-biting 2 point win, 57-55.

In a game where every single point counted, the Firebirds had 3 players reach double digits in scoring. Senior Forward #2 Dasan Doucet was the Firebirds’ leading scorer on the night with 13 points. Doucet was 5 for 9 from the field and missed all 3 of his 3 point attempts. He was also 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Doucet nabbed 5 rebounds, 3 offensive and 2 defensive, had 4 assists, and 3 steals. He also had 5 turnovers and 2 personal fouls on the night.

Junior Forward #10 Eli Sherwood and Junior Guard #1 Cadyn Hower both scored 11 points for the Firebirds.

Sherwood was 4 of 6 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3 point range. Sherwood did not get to the free throw line during the game. Sherwood also had 1 assist, 1 defensive rebound, 1 steal, and 1 turnover.

Hower was 3 for 4 from the field with no 3 point attempts, and 5 for 6 from the free throw line. He also had 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 defensive and 1 offensive, and 2 steals. Hower also committed 2 turnovers and one personal foul.

The Firebirds' remaining points came from Senior Guard #12 Anthony Johnson – 8 points, Junior Guard #22 Aden Marrero – 7 points, Junior Guard #11 Tyler Gentile – 5 points, and Junior Guard #3 Logan Adams – 2 points.

As a team, the Firebirds shot 50.0% (20 of 40) from the floor, 36.8% (7 of 19) from 3 point range, and 83.3% (10 of 12) from the free throw line. Kettering also had 16 rebounds, 10 defensive and 6 offensive, 17 assists, 6 steals, 0 blocks, 9 turnovers, and 8 personal fouls.

The Thunderbolts also had 3 players in double digit scoring. Senior Guard #2 Brandon Pooler scored 13 points. He was 5 of 8 from the field, 2 of 3 from 3 point range, and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. Pooler also had 4 rebounds, 3 defensive and 1 offensive, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Pooler also committed 4 turnovers and 2 personal fouls.

Northmont Senior Forward #21 Kennez Bozeman also contributed 13 points. Bozeman was 6 of 10 from the field, 0 for 1 from 3 point range, and 1 for 1 from the free throw line. He also had 3 offensive rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 turnover, and 3 personal fouls.

Thunderbolt Freshman Guard #4 Jeremiah Landers scored 11 points on the night. Landers was 4 of 7 from the field, and 3 of 4 from 3 point range. Landers did not reach the free throw line. He also had 1 assist, 1 defensive rebound, 6 turnovers, and 4 personal fouls.

Northmont’s remaining scoring came from Senior Forward #11 Brian Amin – 8 points, Sophomore Forward #3 Dalin Wilkins – 6 points, and Junior Forward #35 Chermak Green – 4 points.

The Thunderbolts were 52.3% (23 of 44) from the floor, 50.0% (5 of 10) from 3 point range, and 57.1% (4 of 7) from the free throw line. Northmont also had 18 rebounds, 9 defensive and 9 offensive, 10 assists, 6 steals, 3 blocks, 16 turnovers, and 16 personal fouls.

Fairmont's win gives them a 12-1 record on the season and maintains their 2nd place standing in GWOC behind undefeated Centerville. Kettering will take on the Woodward Career Tech Bulldogs of Cincinnati Monday, January 17, 2021. This game is part of Kettering’s annual Flyin to the Hoops Basketball tournament at Kettering’s Trent Arena. The Kettering v. Woodward game will be the final game of the 4 day event.
