Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) varsity football scoreboard and standings for week of October 8, 2021

Kettering, Ohio - Friday, the Kettering-Fairmont Firebirds' season took a turn for the worse.  The Firebirds continued their losing streak with the Wayne Warriors. The Firebird defense could not consistently stop the Warriors offense. Rather the Warriors' offense only stopped themselves with big personal foul penalties that stalled drives. In the end, the Warriors survived their mistakes for a two-point win, despite almost giving up the game with personal fouls after the Firebirds' failed 2 point conversion that would have tied the game. The Firebirds kicked off the ball from the Warriors 45-yard line but didn't go for the onside kick. The Warriors ended the game with the ball inside their own 5-yard line, but only had to take a knee to run out the clock. The Firebirds' typically reliable kicking game ended up betraying them against the Warriors with a blocked extra point and a blocked field goal.

While the Firebirds were seeing their hopes of a conference championship dwindle to almost nothing, in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) featured game of the week, undefeated Springfield was taking on undefeated Centerville at Centerville. The Wildcats took firm control over the GWOC championship with a resounding win over the Elks.
