Only one Greater Western Ohio Conference team remains in the Ohio high school football postseason tournament
Kettering, Ohio - The Kettering-Firebirds and most of the Greater Western Ohio Conference's football teams' season ended last week. But the Springfield Wildcats and the Centerville Elks advanced to the second round and played last night.
Springfield took on Dublin Jerome. Springfield completely dominated Dublin winning 34-0. Springfield racked up a total of 447 yards. T'Sean Smoot completed 17 of 23 passing attempts for 263 yards. Springfield put another 184 yards on the board with 29 rushing attempts. Smoot was the Wildcats leading rusher with 112 yards on 16 attempts. Springfield survived three turnovers, and also won the time of possession battle holding the ball for 24 minutes and 47 seconds to Dublin's 23 minutes and 13 seconds. Springfield will take on Findlay Friday, November 12, 2021, in Round 3 of the Championship tournament
In the other game, Centerville was defeated by Toledo Whitmer 42-31. Toledo took the lead 7-3 in the first quarter. They then expanded the lead with 21 points in the second quarter giving them a 28-21 halftime lead. Toledo outscored Centerville 14-10 in the second half securing their 42-31 win.
