Kettering area residents are asked to help with bike, pedestrian, and public transit plan

Kettering, Ohio – The Miami Valley Regional Active Transportation Plan group is inviting Kettering area Residents to participate in a listening session. The listening session will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2021, at the Dayton Metropolitan Library Main Branch, 215 East 3rd
Street, Dayton. The session will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. or 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in conference room 3A. Parking for the event is available at the library, and the library is also on bus routes operated by the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority.



The Miami Valley Regional Active Transportation Plan is an update of the Regional Bikeways Plan. The plan also expands on the Regional Bikeways plan because it includes planning for pedestrians and public transportation access.

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is coordinating the project and has created a steering committee to lead the project. The steering committee consists of bike, pedestrian, and transit user groups and various local government entities. The Steering Committee is currently comprised of:

  • Bike Miami Valley
  • City of Beavercreek
  • City of Dayton
  • City of Kettering
  • City of Piqua
  • City of Springboro
  • City of Troy
  • Dayton Children’s Hospital
  • Five Rivers Metro Parks
  • Greene CATS Public Transit
  • Green County Regional Planning
  • Major Taylor Cycling Club
  • Miami County Park District
  • National Federation of the Blind
  • Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 7 & 8
  • Sinclair Community College

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission says the project started in Summer 2021 and it is anticipated to be completed by Summer 2022. The project has 8 stages:

1. Developing plan vision and goals.

2. Reviewing existing conditions by collecting data, reviewing existing plans, policies and programs, and analysis.

3. Engaging the community through public surveys, meetings, events, etc.

4. Developing project, program, and policy proposals.

5. Prioritizing project, program, and policy proposals.

6. Finalizing a plan by providing public comment periods for both the draft and final plan.

7. Finalizing the plan.

8. Adopting the plan.

The Planning Commission says that Wednesday’s listening session is intended to provide residents and community stakeholders an opportunity to share their priorities on the bike, pedestrian, and public transit issues that the plan should address. The Commission is also planning additional listening sessions for:

November 23, 2021, from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M, or 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Xenia Library, 76 East Market Street, Xenia

November 30, 2020, from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M., or 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the West Milton Library, 560 South Main Street, West Milton.
