Kettering, Ohio - As I traveled to tonight's Kettering City Council meeting, I noticed that it is starting to look a lot like Christmas in Kettering because residents and businesses are putting up holiday lights. In fact, the City of Kettering is hoping that residents will help bring cheer and brightness to the community this holiday season through their decorated homes and businesses.

The City of Kettering is set to host its 2021 Kettering is home to the holidays program. The event will feature holiday light displays created by local Kettering residents. The program is being coordinated by the Kettering Volunteer Office.

There are two parts to the program. First, residents can sign-up with the City of Kettering to have their home or business included in the holiday lights tour. Then once the tour is set, Kettering residents can download a map of the tour's stops and visit each light display.

The City will be accepting applications to join the tour from local residents and businesses from November 22, 2021, through December 17, 2021. To apply to join the tour, visit https://www.ketteringoh.org/2021-holiday-lights-tour. This website has a tour application form you can fill out. The form asks for your first and last name,  your address, your phone number, and your email address. If you are a business, you will also be asked to fill in your business name. The form also provides a section for a "Personal Message" where you can provide a brief description of your holiday light display.

At the bottom of the form, there is also a link to include a picture of your light display. This is extremely important because the City says that all applications to join the tour must include a picture of your decorated property. Kettering also says that residents and business owners should only submit their own property - the City will not accept submissions of another person's residence or business.

Once the submission deadline of December 17, 2021, arrives, the City will complete a map of the 2021 holiday light tour. Residents can then download that map at https://www.ketteringoh.org/2021-holiday-lights-tour.  Once you have the map, you can then travel around the City to see how residents and businesses have decorated for the holiday season. Kettering says that they will also be making a video of the holiday light tour.
