Kettering-Fairmont Firebirds boys basketball team opens season

Kettering, Ohio – The Kettering Fairmont boys varsity basketball team opened the 2021-22 season Friday, November 26, 2021. Fairmont took on the Westland High School Cougars of Galloway as part of the 2021 Benner Field House Classic in Xenia.



Fairmont took control of the game in the 1st quarter. By the end of the quarter, the Firebirds had amassed a 25-4 lead over the cougars. The Firebirds went on to control the entire game outscoring the Cougars in every single quarter. The Firebirds won the 2nd quarter 21-12 to take a 46-16 half-time lead. The Cougars’ night didn’t get any better after half-time. Fairmont outscored Westland in the 3rd quarter 23-9. The Firebirds capped off their first win of the year with a 10-2 4th
quarter to make the final 79-12.

Fairmont Senior Guard #12 Anthony Johnson was the Firebirds leading scorer for the night with 24 pts. Johnson was 8 for 15 from the field giving him a 53.3% field goal percentage. Johnson also hit 3 of 9 3-point attempts for a 44.4% 3-point percentage. That gave Johnson 8-points in 2 point baskets, 12 points on 3-pointers, and 4 points from the free-throw line. Johnson also added 3 assists, 2 steals, and was the Firebirds leading rebounder with 6 rebounds.

Fairmont Senior Forward #2 Dasan Doucet tacked on 17 points for the Firebirds. Doucet shot 7 of 11 from the field for a field goal percentage of 63.5%. He hit 1 of 3 from 3-point range for a 33.3% 3-point percentage. Doucet was perfect from the line hitting 2 free throws on the night. Doucet added 3 assists and contributed 2 blocks on the defensive side.

Fairmont had a 3rd player, Junior Guard #11 Tyler Gentile, who contributed double digits in offense. Gentile put 13 points on the board hitting 5 of 7 from the floor for a field goal percentage of 71.4%. Gentile hit 1 of 1 3-point attempts and was 2 of 2 from the free-throw line. Gentile added 1 assist and contributed 2 steals on defense.

Overall, the Firebirds shot 30 of 55 from the field for a field goal percentage of 54.5%. The Firebirds also hit 7 of 18 3-point attempts for a 38.9% 3-point percentage. The Firebirds also nabbed 27 rebounds, 18 steals, and 3 blocks in their rout of the Cougars.

The Kettering-Fairmont Firebirds’ next game is Tuesday, November 30, 2021, when they travel to take on the Middletown Middies. The game is scheduled for 7:15 P.M. at Middletown High School, 601 N. Breiel Blvd., Middletown.
