Kettering Fairmont boys varsity basketball team looks to continue season opening hot streak

Kettering, Ohio – The Kettering Fairmont varsity boys basketball team will play their 3rd game of the 2021-22 season Friday, December 3, 2021, at 7:30 P.M. The Firebirds will play their first Greater Western Ohio Conference game of the year when they take the floor against the Northmont Thunderbolts. The game will be played at Fairmont’s Trent Arena 3301 Shroyer Road, Kettering.

The Firebirds opened the season with an easy 79-27 victory over Westland High School on November 26, 2021. On November 30, 2021, the Firebirds traveled to Middletown to take on the Middletown Middies.

Kettering’s second game of the year was much tighter than their opening matchup. Kettering took the early lead by outscoring the Middies 11-7 in the 1st quarter. The Firebirds stretched their lead a bit further by outscoring the Middies by 1 15-8 margin in the 2nd
quarter. This made the half-time score 26-15 and gave Kettering an 11 point lead. The 11 point margin that Fairmont built up in the first half proved to be key. In the 3rd quarter, the Firebirds and Middies played to a 14-14 tie, maintaining the Fairmont 11 point lead with a score of 40-29. Then in the 4th quarter, the two teams played to a 15-15 tie giving the Firebirds an 11 point victory with a final score of 55-44.

Two players accounted for 40 of Fairmont’s 55 points. The Firebirds’ leading scorer was Senior Guard #12, Anthony Johnson. Johnson put 22 points on the board against the Middies. Johnson was 7 for 11 from the field and made 4 of 6 3-point attempts. He was also a perfect 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Janson also added in 11 rebounds, 9 defensive and 2 offensive. The Senior guard also contributed 3 steals and 1 assist.

Senior Forward #2 Dasan Doucet scored 18 of Fairmont’s 55 points. He made 6 of 12 from the field and converted 2 of 3 3-point attempts. Doucet also nabbed 7 rebounds, 4 defensive and 3 offensive. He also contributed 5 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Overall Fairmont shot 47.4% from the field hitting 18 of 38. They also shot 41.2% from 3-point ranging hitting 7 of 17 attempts. Firebirds shot 60% from the free-throw line making 12 of 20. As a team, Kettering nabbed 29 rebounds, 18 defensive and 11 offensive, and had 7 steals and 1 block.

Opening the season with two straight wins is a fantastic start for the Firebirds. Northmont also opened the season with a victory by beating the Ponitz Golden Tigers of Dayton 56-42.
