Kettering Fairmont boys’ basketball moves to 4-0

Kettering, Ohio – The Kettering Fairmont Firebirds boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Springboro Panthers on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. The Firebirds entered the Greater Western Ohio Conference matchup with a 3-0 record while the panthers entered with a 2-1 record. The Panthers had beaten Xenia 73-53 and Beavercreek 51-45 but had fallen to Mason 69-57. Fairmont on the other hand had secured wins against Westland 79-27, Middletown 55-44, and Northmont 55-45.



Fairmont opened the game by controlling the 1st
quarter outscoring the Panthers 14-8. In the 2nd quarter, the Firebirds expanded their lead by holding the Panthers to only 4 points while scoring 14 points. This gave Kettering a 28-12 half-time lead.

In the 3rd quarter, the two teams played to a 14-14 tie. This gave Fairmont a fairly comfortable 42-26 lead entering 4th
quarter play. In the final period, the Firebirds outscored Springboro 15-12. The 57-38 final score gave Fairmont their 4th straight victory to open the season.

Fairmont had two players in double figures for the night. Senior Forward #2 Dasan Doucet was the Firebirds’ leading scorer with 23 points. Doucet was 11-22 from the field. He also made 1 of 1 free-throw attempts but did not try any 3-pointers. Doucet also had 2 rebounds, 1 offensive, and 1 defensive, and contributed 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 assist.

Senior Guard #12 Anthony Johnson was the other Fairmont play to reach double digits in scoring. Johnson scored 16 points on the night. He was 6 of 8 from the field and 2 of 2 from 3-point range. Johnson was also perfect from the free-throw line hitting 2. Johnson also nabbed 5 defensive rebounds and contributed 1 steal and 1 assist.

The Firebirds also received offensive production from starters Junior Forward #14 Jamison Rountree who scored 4 points, and Junior Guard #1 Cadyn Hower who contributed 2 points. The remainder of the Firebirds’ points came from bench players, Junior Guard #22 Aden Marrero 4 points, Junior Guard #3 Logan Adams 2 points, Junior Guard # 11 Tyler Gentile 2 points, Senior Center #13 Braden Hicks 2 points, Sophomore Forward #21 Daniel Seaton 1 point, and Junior Guard #24 Jordan Hall 1 point.

As a team, the Firebirds shot 53.3% (24 of 45) from the field and 40.0% (2 of 5) from 3-point range. Fairmont also shot 77.8% (7 of 9) from the free-throw line. Kettering’s stats also included 23 rebounds, 14 defensive and 9 offensive, 14 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks.

The Firebirds will take their undefeated record into their Tuesday, December 14, 2021, non-league game against crosstown rivals Archbishop Alter Knights. The Knights are members of the Greater Catholic League and are also 4-0 on the year. Alter has opened the year with victories over Homestead (Indiana) 68-65, Cincinnati Moeller 58-58 in overtime, Oakwood 76-61, and Bishop Fenwick, 68-33. The game between Fairmont and Alter will be played at Fairmont’s Trent Arena, 3301 Shroyer Road, Kettering. Tickets are $5 for seniors and students (ID may be required), and $7 adults.
