Local Carlisle Woman completes the BT for the Second Time!

Jeri Getts is ready to score a repeat on the Buckeye Trail. The Buckeye Trail is a 1400+ loop around the state of Ohio. Jeri started her first hike of the BT in August 2015, finishing 4 years later in November 2019.

This was not enough trail miles for her. She began her encore in March 2020, which will finish on May 22, 2023. Jeri is the second woman to complete the entire trail twice.

Her favorite section, on both rounds, is the Stockport section in southern Ohio. "It is a good mixture of back country gravel roads winding thru Amish farm areas and wooded paths" Jeri noted. "It was great to finish off the day with dinner at the Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill and spending the night at the Stockport Mill."

One of the greatest things that Jeri gained from hiking the trail was the wonderful network of friends she had made along the way. In collaboration with fellow hiker Karen Powers, she has created a cartoon of her hiking mishaps and adventurers, called "The Adventures of Tor and Tag on the BT", which has been published in the Buckeye Trail Association magazine The Trailblazer since 2018.

With first-time BT finisher Cindy Somers, Jeri will be completing the Buckeye Trail Loop at the northern terminus of the trail Monday, May 22, 2023, at Headland Beach State Park, Mentor.
