Spring Valley Welcomed as 19th Buckeye Trail Town

Spring Valley, Ohio-The Buckeye Trail Association welcomes Spring Valley as their 19th Trail Town June 17, 2023. Trail Towns are a way to connect hikers with the local community. Long distance trails attract travelers from outside the local community who want to explore interesting places in their travels and need services that a Trail Town can provide.

With Spring Valley village officials, the Buckeye Trail Association will be celebrating this designation at Bledsoe Park, Main Street, Spring Valley, June 17, 2023 at 11 am to 12 pm.

“Spring Valley is encouraging trail users to make a stop in their village, whether they are hiking the North Country Scenic Trail, the Buckeye Trail, or cycling on their way via the Ohio to Erie Bike Route” noted Kim Love-Ottobre, Buckeye Trail Town Coordinator. “Trail Towns are welcome respite to the trail user, whether they are in need of gear, water, or the local ice cream flavor.”

After the ceremony, the public is invited to take a short hike thru the village and visit Hensley’s Ice Cream Shop. A hike north on the Buckeye Trail to the Travertine Fen will begin at noon.

Ohio's Buckeye Trail The Buckeye Trail was established in 1959, today it is a 1,400+ mile hiking trail linking the four corners of Ohio marked by 2" x 6" blue blazes. The BT follows wooded footpaths, abandoned railroad corridors, historic canal towpaths, rivers, lake shores, and country roads, within both rural and urban settings. The Trail provides public access to Ohio's scenic and historic diversity. The BT is open to all, made possible through the permission and cooperation of federal, state and local agencies, private landowners and the tireless work of volunteers.
