Alter High School alum photographed Paris Olympics for global audience
A top sports photographer who covered the 2024 Paris Olympics for a worldwide audience graduated from Kettering’s Archbishop Alter High School ten years ago.
Sarah Stier of Getty Images captured key moments of the summer Olympics, including basketball, aquatics and wrestling.
Based in New York, sports photographer Stier joined Getty Images in November 2020 after internships at Getty and the Boston Red Sox. After graduating from Archbishop Alter HS in 2014, Stier earned a photojournalism degree from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication in 2018.
In June, Stier covered the Olympic swim trials in Indianapolis with Getty Images colleague Maddie Meyer, also an Ohio University alumna.
A broad range of media platforms publish Stier’s photos. In Washington, DC on August 13, the influential publication The Hill published five take-aways from the Paris Olympics. The Hill’s report started with Stier’s photo of Team USA’s Sabrina Ionesco celebrating when the American women’s basketball team won the gold medal.
Stier’s pictures were featured in Olympics photos highlights posted by leading media such as CNN and The Atlantic.
On a typical day covering the Paris Olympics — August 8 — Stier’s photos were published by Axios (men’s basketball), NCAA (wrestling and water polo), People (swimming), ESPN (swimming), Australian media (wrestling and swimming), FOX News (North Korean athletes), Jewish Telegraph Agency (wrestling), and more.
On the same day (August 8), other media mined Stier’s portfolio at Getty Images to illustrate their stories about pro football (Bills, Eagles and Giants), basketball (Knicks and Nets), boxing (Jake Paul/Mike Tyson), golf (viral smoking Brit) and tennis (Coco Gauff).
